View Full Version : Odd Invision/mIrc problem
My fserver is doinging random tiny freezes of the entire system periodically when mirc is open. If i close mirc, the problem goes away. Is is readily evident when i actually try to chat using that computer, and when watching videos, the videos always stop for a few seconds and then go again.
I had this problem before, but it was alot worse, and i think it was one of the causes of why i lost invision settings every time i got disconnected.
I just looked and i have 2 mirc.exe processes. one at 204k, and one at 12.6megs. Wtf??? I'm pretty sure i dont have any viruses, the computer is hardware firewalled and has Avast antivirus that is constantly updated.
Any ideas?

Try closing mirc, renaming the file and reloading it. See if you still have 2 processes with the new name.
I just closed Mirc, and the 200kb one is still open. lol. that's what i get for leaving xp running for weeks on end. and renaming mirc.exe to something else made mirc not even open.
re-opened mirc, and computer went back to running like shit
I think it might be @find, i think my server cached index is so massive, that a 600mhz comptuer actually gets bodded down searching the indexed directories. Am i too off in theory?

Since you are runnign xp, chuck ram in it.
Also could try shutting down the fserve and defraggin your drives...
a defrag of 3 200gig dreies would take days hehe

Use diskkeeper and it will only take like 6 hours or so...
:D
Reminds me, thats one thing I didn't installed after my last format...used to have it scheduled to defrag every 3 nights from 3am til 7am (when Im snoozin)

invision does store @find indexes in one or few files.. it doesn't search thru whole drive looking for results

But i did download perfectdisk and it's defragging as i type this. so when it's done, i'll re-open mirc. maybe reboot too, who knows.
I just switched from Invision to UPP. It's so weird, after years of inision i have to try to use somehting completely differnt. Sorta ike my failed attemps to use linux. Soo, hold tight my leechers as i see if i can get it running smoothly.

What's UPP?

That's the client that I have been testing out. It's a pain to setup, but it doesn't have some of the issues that Invision does.

:dancinnan Cool, could you give me the addy to check it out? Or is it a personal build? Either way, I'd be willing to check it out if you'd be so kind.

The only thing that's buggin me, is that it doesnt auto-rejoin the chat room on the new beetle server. I'm pretty sure i have it set right, i did the same exact thing i did for EfNet, but no avail. It wouldnt really be a problem, except it closes the channel windows when i get disconnected.
And Asspin, u see a learn keys feature yet?

I use it just as a file server. It's just in one channel, so I don't really mess with it.

Same here...well, I manually make it join another channel, but its only set for the one channel...but the timer function works well. Turns on at a certain time, and turns off at a certain time (when it turns off, it basically just pauses everything, so users who were queued or recieving files will get a resume when it turns back on).

Yeah, oh well.
Well, it went back to just basically a frozen state. I have an idea, but it will take me awhile to get the free time to do it. So i'm just gonna keep the server closed till then.
OKay, now I'm dumbfounded.
I was putting my hard drives in the faster computer, and it was going smoothly till i plugged them in.
I first put the raid card in and got the drivers installed in windows, it looks fine. I turned the computer off, plugged the drives in, and the comptuer won't.
The raid card's bios sees the drives perfectly, it all looks like its working perfectly, except it just sits there at verifying DMI pool when the drives are plugged in. I unplug the drives and the computer boots fine.
:wth:
The bois has hte most recent flash revision on it. ANd i've cleared all cmos settings, i tried fail-safe, max performance, and i tried changing alot of settings, and no avail at all.
:anyhelp:
Not that it should matter, but I also could never get the firewire port on the AIW card to work, ever.
I got the comptuer to boot with the hard drives plugged in. I hadda cut a corner tho. The only way i can boot with drives plugged into the raid card is to have it boot of the xp cd but not press a button, and it'll actually boot. :wth:

Post the mobo details, raid card infos, and current bios info and I will look into it.
Also, did you install the raid card in windows? (actually using their driver, NOT something that M$ supplied?)

The Mobo is a DFI CA64-TC with the most upadted bios.
And the raid card is a Silicon Image SI 0680 Ultra-133 Medley ATA Raid card (computer show special right there) it worked flawlessly in hte 600mhz box till it got too bogged down, and the first thing i did was install the windows drivers (from the included cd) before plugging in the drives.
This really inst a windows driver issue since it wont boot to windows at all when trying to boot normally.
I also already tried swapping it thru every pci slot too.
