The channel has been temporarily closed due Universal Music Group requesting their videos be removed. Per our own Terms of Service we must comply. The channel is like this while we sort things out. Also the website is termporarily closed as well. Feel free to post questions or comments below. Apologies to all.
Edit: the channel is now open again

They put out these videos from their artists into the public domain and now want them retracted? There is no difference between this and someone taping/dvd recording from TV, except these videos are put out as FREE publicity.
Unless of course it's so they can make more money by selling DVD's with the videos on it... hmmm
Still, as the TOS state, this must be done. Respect must go to VP on not ripping DVD-released material and complying to this request.

Dunno what I'm gunna do with myself.....
Had vids to convert and release, so not gunna bother with them anymore.
No more kick/bans, no more fiddling with audio to get the vid just right, and in sync..., no more downloading new vids a good month before they are played over here in AUS... :(

Oh no! An Aussie ripper whose actually ripping, and now can't release anything. Maybe the artists aren't with Universal though?!
I agree about the good vids before they are played here. You see a vid released on here, then see it on TV weeks later and have to go back and find it. It's too bad those days seem over.

I'll go through the ones I'm doing, and get them ready, and if it turns out VP goes on without Universal, then I'll up them, etc.

Servers are still offline and will remain so until we finish compiling a list of videos to remove.

Excellent! At last, some good news.
Let's hope VP can get back up and running sometime soon.

well it would be great to see #videopimp still goin. but how many videos are we talking about removing? i've went through my cd collection and found a few artists that would be removed and i was shocked just how many are signed to universal or label owned by universal ie. interscope or geffen.
did you told him about the itunes link??

60-65% approximately.
Shizen Housen that much. well to say the least i hope their happy, my god i would have though like 30-40% tops but i say "vp down but not out"
I was working on gettin an iTunes store setup linked to the files in our release list, now its not even worth it.
Well that would be great but i mean $3.39 i dont care how good it looks or how fast the server is i wouldnt download there.
Thats my 2 cents. Frenchy!

Well if that happening I will just boycott buying cds from universal, because videopimp promotes new and up and coming artists witch i see and go and buy there cds if it's released on universal i won't buy, unless this budges. Down the track it will be there Artists suffering not VIDEOPIMP!!!!

Since i couldn't edit my own damn post, here it is again with the editing.

60-65% approximately.
If you don't like it, send our buddy an email complaining about it.
He's the one that had us remove the files. Apparently the record labels still don't make enough money. I'd say to just outright boycott Universal if you wanna send them a message.
I was working on gettin an iTunes store setup linked to the files in our release list, now its not even worth it.
Post edited, apparently he doesn't like his work address being nailed with so many emails from VP users complaining to him.
I’ve received several emails from what appears to be videopimp.org users. I would appreciate it if you did not post my personal work email address. I understand their frustration however I am not in a position to discuss the situation with them. I would be more then happy to explain personally to you and other owners of videopimp.org, why there is and how the policy works. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
Too bad this guy/gal still has yet to explain anything to us.
PS VP Will go on, under this name or another, underground or mainstream. Funny how we get picked out, and we don't even do dvd rips, yet other 'groups' who do dvd rips and shit, apparently are left unscathed.

As we have always said with material that is on DVD/VHS, please buy it and support the band. I can see why you wouldn't want to do this if you haven't seen the video already. Personally I have found several bands that I now like via Videopimp. Bands I would never even pick up the CD in a store. Oh well, just because something is good, doesn't mean it gets to continue providing its service. Also, please do not email Universal about this, your emails won't make them change their minds. Please simply use this thread for questions, comments, and concerns. Thanks.

Well, we really don't have to worry about Sublime coming out with any 'new' material. Hehe....okay that was a bad joke, but still... :yahoo:

All I can say is goodluck guys, and hang in there. Stupid recording companies...all they care about is money, makes me angry. :wth:
-j-
...it's probably a big waste of time. They have probably thought this through all they are going to and we are the only losers -- at least in their eyes.
They are also probably wrong.
I know personally I project these videos on my wall and have after-hours almost nightly all throughout the summer. Tons of new bands are suggested by attendees and consequently we watch/dance to a variety of stuff that most of us would never listen to otherwise.
For instance I had HEARD of the White Stripes and had caught one or two things on the radio that I liked ok, but was never really a fan till I saw how they performed live. Since then -- a couple years back -- I have most of their CD's, at least one good friend of mine who had one CD now has every CD of theirs, several of us went to a concert of theirs last year in Providence, RI and I didn't make it this year but many of them went to see the Raconteurs earlier this year as well.
This is just the White Stripes, I could name at least a dozen other bands that became popular through this same method -- many of which I had never even heard of prior. E.g., Arctic Monkeys, Bedoine Soundclash, Deathcab for Cutie, Matisyahu, Missle Silo Suite, Head Autimatica, Cake, Beck... and that is just what immediately comes to mind!
We were not fans prior to these videos. Before we used to just listen to various music (that we already knew) and do slide shows of unrelated summer photos...
Anyway, I digress. The POINT is we don't need to tell Universal all of this. We need to tell the artists that Universal handles. Let THEM apply the pressure, because if they knew I bet they would. Perhaps when the lists are purged we could see a list of those artist removed and we could then contact the ones we used to listen to and let them know what Universal is doing for them -- or NOT doing -- or doing TO them now...
Just a thought... anyone?

Very well said jofo, I would look at doing a petition online or something. I bet every member on videopimp would sign it. I would be on there. I know I am more of a fan of music because of music videos. goodluck

This angers me. Something extremely ruthless and unsavory needs to happen to the higher-ups at Universal. I hope they all develop crotch rot.

Hey guys. Been getting vidz from you guys for years. Went by the alias duhasst for awhile and have been in an unfortunate circumstances to have all my vidz on a hard drive that can no longer hold a partition. Universal can go to hell. But I am curious as to what they have said to you guys. I don't like the fact that they came after you guys since even on your site it said that you were promoting the music. If there is anything that can be done a petition would be best I definately agree with jofo. Good luck guys.

they sure have some high paying jobs for how ignorant they are.
I guess they really don't think much. I personally haven't bought very many records or cds since WAY before I ever downloaded a song or video....
Of the few albums I HAVE purchased I viewed or listened to them by downloading first... so I cant figure how they say theyre losing money from ME... I'd rather save up and go see a live concert, at least I can rest assured the bands I like are getting a good cut from that.
So, in short Universal records can kiss my shiney metal a$$
