    Default Speed Issues

Hey all currently new to all this but getting the hang of things...my main issue atm is for some reason getting a few speed issues with my d/l.

I live in Australia and i'm not on a very quick connection so i'm not expecting huge speeds but when i d/l things through my web browser i get speeds around 24-29, using Limewire i get around 27-32 but through mirc the highest speed i've gotten has been around 15kb while i've also had downloads complete at around 7kb some even slower.

A few servers i've been d/l from have canceled my transfer due to droping under the required and i've tried and tired again but this continues to happen.

Did a /Whois on myself and these are the results below:

    ^A-P-C^ is ~a-perfect@CPE-58-166-54-25.vic.bigpond.net.au * The Nameless
    ^A-P-C^ on #videopimp
    ^A-P-C^ using irc.nac.net I have a poisonous friend
^A-P-C^ has been idle 10secs, signed on Wed May 03 14:31:04
    ^A-P-C^ End of /WHOIS list.

Just wanting to know is there anything i could do to gain alittle more speed be it with my mirc setting or anything else.

Thanks again for any help provided.

Any of you on bigpond have an idea? It could be port limiting, a firewall, or some other software on your computer causing the problem.

Maybe actually posting which fserve's you were using when your "link" dropped...and were you doing any other "transfers" on or off irc at that time....info is good...lack of info...well...not gonna figure out anything that way...

well it doesnt matter seeing as i know why i my transfer was being stoped...but i gave all the info i felt was needed...and to answer ur question no i'm not doing any other downloading while using mirc....i'm not stupid i know that mulitpul d/l slows each download down.

All i want to know is if its possible to increase my d/l speed...nothing more nothing less

I imagine it's an ISP issue, do they have something on their site about port speed limiting, or does anyone who uses bigpond have similar issues? If not the problem is probably on your system.

Wasn't stated anywhere in the first 2 posts...how was I to know? Maybe bad routing between the bot and him...Oz isn't known for their awesome net connections...

He could move to say, Sweeden or such...that would speed him up.

Well there are a lot of users using bigpond in the channel, hopefully one of them has an insight.

I was a bigpond user till a few months ago - god telstra were the biggest fuckin rip offs (HINT: Switch to TPG, Exetel or iiNet).

Sounds like you're only on 256/64 DSL. But remember, some servers don't have major upload speeds (I have 256 kbps upload, but some have much less than that). I have 2 sends going simultaneously, so that leaves 128 kbps for each person (on average), which is about 13-14 kBps per send. If you've got another 20 kbps download going you've got about 8 left for mIRC, that might be enough to stay above the min CPS for some servers (mine's only at 2 kBps) there are some like AssyServe which have a min of 7.5. So the problem isn't with the servers or bigpond (bigpond don't block IRC/torrent ports), but just with your limited download bandwidth. There isn't really much you can do without upgrading your internet, but you can try not to download anything else while you're dlding off a server, and if you've got an IM client or 2 running and you're not using it just sign out, it saves a fair bit of bandwidth.

I find that if you have 2 people downloading, the guy with the faster connection gets more speed, and being aussie, we have the lower speeds 90% of the time.
So, I'd say just to keep trying different servers.

Keep an eye out for S76-serve, and if I have any vids you want, let me know and I'll give ya the full 25k/s you want, plus being aussie, we should have a good speed.
