This was made for people who just don't like the quality of what they hear in a video they've downloaded from around the net. This is also the common method used internally to put better audio on our videos.

open the original video file(uncompressed AVI is best if you have it) in VirtualDub

save as wav

close VirtualDub

open Cool Edit

amplify (peak at 30,000dBsmpl)

Transform, Amplitude, Amplify, Noise Reduction, Hiss Reduction, Edit or make any changes you wish to the audio

save as wav

close Cool edit

open TMPGenc

LOAD

select unlock.mcf

then under Stream type select Audio Only

delete anything it says under video source

imput that wav file you saved from cool edit

hit Start

this will give you a .mp2 file

now when done go to File; Mpeg Tools

select Simple Demultiplex

enter the original mpg video file input

delete anything it says under Audio Output(since you dont need it)

hit Run

this will give you a .m1v video file

now go to Simple Multiplex tab

imput the .m1v file as your video source

and the edited .mp2 file as your audio source

make sure it says MPEG-1 Video CD before you hit run

hit run

that will give you a new .mpg file

if you get an error about packet Loss then you NEED to run the new finished mpg through the Merge & Cut section. You may also append or edit other video segments, etc at this time. Running through this section will fix the packet loss errors.

Watch your finished product. If you appended any two videos together pay attention to the joint points. If you hear a high pitched beep, you can edit it out of this new audio using the methods described above. Remember, it is always best to join things before they get compressed & encoded to mpg so the application and windows treats it as one file properly.
