Default Gaming Video Card - What to get?

I'm in the need for a gaming video card. What to get? PCI-E obviously, but ATI, Nvidia? Which camp? Looking for a decent gaming card, but still semi cheap. =p

My friend has got a Powercolor HD 4850, and he says its better than Nvidia's 9 series video cards. Costs less than 200 bucks (rough conversion to USD).

4850 is way to go for now, it costs less then 4870 and you don't get huge improvements from the 4870, nvidia has terrible pricing when compared to ATI whilist they don't give you anything extra from the graphics. Powercolor or Asus should be allright, there are some problems with gigabytes 4850 so better avoid them.

I can't really find this exact product in my local retailer's pricelist, but it looks okay. However I suggest you get something newer like the 4850, so that it will last you longer, as it won't get outdated that fast. Just my suggestion.

I ordered mine the other day, just waiting for it now. Tho I'm tempted to order another one, so both my pc's will have the same card in them. Might just get a cheapy for my old gamer box. Just for the hell of it. I haven't used the capping abilities of my old card, (in my gamer box) in a long time. Last time was after I moved to my APT, and its just not worth it. Anything I want to cap, I can usually download from somewhere. =)

Been offered some capping jobs, but really, for what they pay, its not worth my time.
