widescreen lcd monitor likes to make my ati mmc 4:3 into widescreen too

I've got everything looking clear and beautiful on my new LG flatron wide monitor, my aspect ratio and resolution sizes are even suggested by the monitor's spec sheet and approved and controlled by my ati catalyst system thingie. but now when i have my ati multimedia center tv watching/capping program window open, even after i fix it to display to me in 4:3 (as my tv sat source is 4:3) it'll go back to squishing my window widescreen later. on my old crt it would keep my custom ratio setting until i'd reset it manually. am i forgetting to do something or is it just a weird quirk? it does record fine, it's the watching live that's silly behavior.

i've got no idea hehe, i've got regular 4:3 lcd and i've never played so long on wide screen to test different video settings
